When I started with chickens the first time, I assumed wing clipping was to be done to both wings. My little ladies flew fine. As the other poster said, they just had to work harder at it, which they did. THEN I read to do it only on one side. And had to wait until the flight feathers grew back in. The neighbor's dogs ate several of my hens (in the neighbor's yard) during that time. Now I use a 4' fence and clip one wing - always the right one, so I can tell at a glance when the feathers are growing back (plus it is easier for me since I am right handed). Works great for me. Results for others may vary.
