Oh dear, I certainly hope that isn't the case! Fingers crossed for the little ones! I thought you were incubating them. How many days does it take for a black swan to hatch? Also I would love to see your setup for your swans. I have plans to get a 'couple' soon, and would like some ideas on housing. : )

Are you thinking of getting Black or Mute swans? Some states require a permit for Mute swans with the state DNR, like here in Michigan, because they are considered an invasive species and they even have certain requirements if the are kept in an enclosure and they need to be pinioned. I doubt they have as many requirements in Texas for Mute swans.

In general I think the big differences in providing for swans compared to geese is swans have a greater need for spending time in water that supports their body weight.

how is the nest/hatching going? I hope she didnt quit on you and loose the hatch.

She hasn't set the nest in awhile.....she left it up to him.... He hasn't been on it much today so I took them. The one egg still looks dark with air cell and some veining. the other looked swishy and the baby spun in their with the fluid. I went to open it up and swore I heard a peep...and possible movement....so I closed it back up and put both in my incubator. I don't think the swishy one has much a chance...who knows about the other...we will see.....

Aww, poor baby! I hope it makes it. Do you know when they are due to hatch?

Lost the one egg..... Poor baby look close to developed but stopped. Now all hopes lie with the one remaining and best looking egg......


Black swans are a good first swan....they are pretty friendly....more docile around breeding time to people and other birds..... Mr. Swan follows me around and only karate chops me if I bump into him.....lol

She may lay another.... She had started back in Nov.and laid.3 but broke them....this was her first time sitting. She's building experience.

The last egg is moving about inside. I think it is on day 33 if I calculated right......hope it hatches....
