We lost a sweet little pullet today. Ms. Hook was a super nice chicken that was the bottom of the pecking order in our coop. She had taken a beating this winter and was partially bald, but since they were outside more things had gotten better and her feathers were starting to come back. She was very skittish from being picked on and would run and try to hide at any little thing. Today we found her upside down with her head in a small crack next to the nest boxes. To me it looked like she broke her neck trying to run and hide. I explained this all to my son who was sobbing. She was one of those birds that run to you when they see you coming. So as unfarmer like as it is, we found her a box and buried her. Our property is back to back to a cemetery so she is under a tree next to the fence. I ask my son if he has any last words to say about her and he says, through tears " Why couldn't she have been brave and went ninja on them?" Have to smile through the tears! You will be missed Ms. Hook.

I'm sorry!
She's like one of my Polish, Misty. Misty and her sister Daisy (We still have Daisy) Were best of friends, but always got picked on by the bigger, and smaller birds. One day, Misty I guess got so scared, she accidently ran into the woods and got eaten.. so now I gotta play with Daisy everyday because she lost her sister/BFF

Sorry I know how you feel, but the ninja part made me smile

Thanks I'm just glad she's not being bullied now, the ninja part just makes me smile and the funny thing is that my son was totally serious about it. He was all set to butcher whoever had scared her.
