I have 7 babies all total. The 5th EE burst from her shell before bedtime last night and the other ? egg looked exactly the same with a small pip that broke through.
At 2:30am the ? egg looked exactly the same and the bator was very quiet. I pulled the egg out and opened the pip hole a little bigger. Since it was so quiet I figured it was a goner and I wanted to know why before I went back to bed. I chipped away the whole air cell and pulled the membrane back. No blood and it was good and soft. The chick was very dark and still. Then I got that being watched feeling and realized there was a small bright eye focused on my from the egg in my hand. I said, "Well hi there. Are you ready to hatch now?" The eye closed. No peeping at all. So I chipped and peeled a tad more, enough to see that the chick was fully formed and the yolk was absorbed, but she just lay there limp in about 2/3 of the shell. I put her back in the bator and watched for a minute. She was breathing and could easily have kicked herself free of the the egg.
I walked back to bed certain that she was a goner.
But when I got up at 6am she was out of the egg and sitting there. So very very dark! I could hardly see her against the black base of the Brower. And still perfectly silent. She never peeped when I got her out. She didn't peep when I gave her some poly-vi-sol. She didn't peep when she went in the brooder. She has 5 toes, black skin, dark fluff except for her yellow breast. Her feet are black but the tips of her toes are green.
By the time I left for work she was pecking at chick starter and milling with crowd. Silently.
I'll post pics later, but Silence tried to avoid being in them. Guess she's bashful about still being sticky.
