You sure made me chuckle with the statement of your wife falling asleep at the watch! I am watching this thread to see what happens...I have a hen in here for the very same reason! I do not sleep in the living room and watch her however...she will have a warm bath shortly. Terri O in WI

Ok, she definitely ate some, cause her beak has some mash on it. Gave her some warm water to drink, have wife on duty to see if she drinks any.

When I entered the room Ms Purdy jumped out of the box and went right to my wife and stood on her head. I put her back in the box with the warm water.

I'm going back in.

Latest update: about 10 minutes ago, she deficated, looked normal. First bowel movement that I know of all morning since daybreak. Right before she did the deed she grew somewhat anxious and afterwards, so I checked the box and sure enough, chicken poo.

She definitely seems more responsive, so I decided to let her join the other girls. She drank water with the rest of them. So I know she can drink and eat, she just still is out of it, off to the side, dazed and confused.

I will check on her in a bit to see what gives.

Thinking we may have to bring her in for the night. Hopefully she comes out of it, lays an egg...

If it is an "egg thing," best to just wait and let Nature take its course.

It's a girl thing, you know. Just keep her comfy, wait on her hand and foot, provide lots of foot rubs and chocolate and . . . wait, better hold off on the chocolate for hens. Give hen mama some chocolate, yes that's it, and just sympathize with all the girl talk about cramps, etc.

Alright folks what y'all think, bring her in for the night or let her roost with the others?

She's been outside the last 5 hours & is feeding with the others right now, albeit she is still kinda out of it. Not too much has changed since about noon.

Our low is predicted to be 25 F tonight.
