Hi all,

Has anyone used Mt Healthy Hatchery? I was wondering about your experiences with them... good stock? Customer service issues? Wasn't too pleased with the hatchery I used this spring and I'm looking to change. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance

I didn't order from them personally, but this past spring I bought 6 Americana chicks from a local farm store and I made a point to ask what hatchery the chicks came from. The man said they came from Mt Healthy in OH. After answering my question, he turned to a co-worker and mentioned that in the 2000 chicks they ordered only 1 was DOA. I thought that was pretty impressive.

My 6 girls are very healthy, never had any illnesses at all, not even pasty butt. They're the friendliest of all my birds and just started laying at 19 weeks old!

A friend of mine bought her birds from the same farm store a year earlier than I did and hers are doing great, too. Excellent layers.

Good luck with your choice and

Thank you Southern Belle.... the chicks I ordered this spring were sickly... had one with the leg coming out the side and one that stayed midget sized... many seemed to have immune system issues.... ended up losing 6 outright and will have to cull the 2 with genetic issues. Of the birds that are of the same variety, the size differences are striking... makes me wonder about the quality of the stock this hatchery was sending out. I've heard some good things about Mt Healthy and our local TSC will only order from them. So.... I'm thinking Mt Healthy it is for next spring's order. Thank you for your input.

I ordered our RIRs from Mt Healthy. They notified me of the hatch and shipping date. All arrived healthy and stong and have grown into beatiful dark red pullets. I called the hatchery to express my pleasure, and they forwarded my call straight back to the lady in the hatchery!

Very nice, very friendly, and I have beautiful, healthy, gentle chickens.

The feed store where I buy my chicks from uses Mt. Healthy Hatchery and I have had good luck with them. They are nice birds. I have Blue, Black and Buff Cochins from them and they are beautiful. Out of 26 chicks from them I lost one.

I ordered 200 fryers and got them very cheap...but the birds they sent did not reflect that price. They all arrived very chipper and healthy!! They are all still alive and doing well going on day 3. They arrived in ONE day. I am in Tennessee they are in Ohio I was impressed and will order from them again. All the chicks are big and strong RIRs I think. They look high quality as far as I can tell. I think out of the bunch of males we got 15 or 16 females(*bonus for us)

With my own experience this spring and some of the horror stories I've read on the posts, it's wonderful to hear there's a hatchery that still takes pride in their "product". Thank you, thank you!

I have a few birds that I bought from the local feed store via Mt Healthy. I like my EE's, but they were sold as Ameraucanas! ARRGH!! Why can't the big hatcheries get it together and be honest about what they are selling!
