if i ever get around to reworking the net over my extra run, i can separate my extra cockbirds for growout. they’re already coloring out so i won’t be able to tell them apart much longer

We usually raise coturnix quail for meat, but too many were turning into permanent pets. Also my kiddo doesn’t love the taste as much as I do. So I just gave up for now. But nothing beats 2 month turnaround from egg to table IMO.

So the family favorite is CX. Just the right blend of cute, friendly, messy, and lazy to be enjoyable without wanting to keep them too long.

For flavor/all-around ease, jumbo pekins would be the favorite. BUT they have that axe murderer phase — no matter how much attention they get as babies, they panic at the sight of humans. That makes them annoying. And I have a really hard time butchering animals I don’t like. So no more pekins (until we just get an undeniable craving for smoked duck again).

Guess I should explain — I always try to make them feel comfortable and loved til the last possible moment. If I don’t like a bird, I may not be giving it that easy send-off. It’s just a weird thing that bugs me.
Lol, I felt like it was something like that, but I couldn't resist the urge to make a funny response. Thanks for explaining 😁
