muddy eggs

i have turkeys and we had a great storm here, and everything is muddy, they are laying there eggs in mudd, and i mean they are covered, what can i do with these, i hatch eggs and i know they say you can't wash them. is there any way to save these so they might hatch??

Hi.... I have read post where some people do wash or use wet cloth with warmer water than the eggs so it does not pull in bacteria into the egg. I also have used sandpaper or emoryboard and got off most of the mud. I hope this helps... I love turkeys too!

I have ducks and turkeys. I am guessing you want to hatch them in an incubator. I don't use one so am not really much help. The dirty ones hatch fine under their mums not sure if this is the same in an inubator or not.

What I do with my muddy duck eggs is to wipe of a the big chunks with my finger, then wait till the mud dries. You can use a piece of fine-grained sand paper to get the dry stuff off.

You can wash them with water around 110-120 deg. try not to rub the egg but use your finger nail to get the big stuff off and rinse under the water. the litter stuff will come off with the rinsing. Then pat dry with a towel, then place in the bator. I have done this with the heavy coated eggs and never really seen a big difference in the hatch rate....
