muddy run

How do you clean the run when you use pine shavings? Just wondering because I have an extra bag laying around that I could use.

I raked it, it really worked to clean up the run during the summer when we had a few thunderstorms....but now its a total disaster makes the mud worse, but it improves the smell wet chicken pooh not my favorite odor!l

I only have wet run issues during the winter when it snows and my geese and ducks trample it to muck! Nasty! I spread a layer of straw over the run whenever it gets mucky and then fork the whole area out in the spring--the garden and compost pile love the stuff, and it makes it much more pleasant for me! I have spread some straw in the chicken side, but our ground is really rocky--not much mud, so I don't have as much trouble with their poops.
