The chickens now :)

I think that they are all marans, I did some research and found that marans dislike being touched or picked up, and my chickens really don't, even though they were handled since being hatched. I hope to get more hens but I would want some silly tame ones which like to petted, any ideas on what breeds are like this and would get on with the marans? I'm also having to find the white rooster a home because i'm worried his crowing will upset the neighbors. I'm surprised there have been no complaints yet! The other rooster has not crowed once, if the more dominant rooster left, would he find his crow or keep quiet? I don't want to loose Lugia but I can't upset my neighbors!

Gorgeous birds! They look awesome up in the trees.

I have a buff Orpinton hen, and she loves attention. She likes being petted and hanging out on laps. I also have a cochin/Polish mix hen. She is absolutely silly and goofy. But she does like to be held and petted, when it suits her.

She is younger than my Orp, so she doesn't want anything to interfere with her exploring too much.

First off, I really enjoyed looking at those pictures. They were so adorable in the tree!!

I agree with Tina about the Buff Orpington. If you want a "lap chicken" They are the breed to choose. They are bar none, the sweetest most loving birds. I have 3 of them (originally had 4, but we lost our sweet Lily to a predator). My children carry them around all the time. They follow us around the yard and want to be with us always. They come when we call them and love eating treats from our hands. They play with my girls and even swim with them! Research the breed and you will quickly find that they are the most loving breed of chicken. Check out these link to see pictures of my children interacting with our loving Buff Orpingtons. When we expand our little flock, we are doing it with more Buff Orpingtons! I really hope this will be the breed you choose. You will not regret it and they will give you so much love and happiness. Not only do the have incredible personalities, but they are also wonderful layers...even in winter!

All this being said, please don't take my word. Research the breed yourself, and I'm certain you WILL pick this wonderful, rewarding, sweet and loving breed.

Blessings!

Pokemon names!

Anyway, I've never had Orpingtons (my mom wants them, we just don't have any more room), but I got barred rocks this year and every time I'm in the pen with them, most of them are scrambling for a spot on my lap. They're the friendliest birds I have ever had! I also have red sexlinks that are really friendly (they do kind of dodge when I try to pet them, but they follow me around and hang out with me when I'm outside).

Good luck with your descision!

Dig the names! >_< Gotta catch em all!

My Silkies and D'uccles are very friendly...they are smallish chickens though. As far as my standards go, my RIR, BLK Sexlinks, and my Brahma are all very friendly. They don't love me holding them in this heat...but any normal day they are all for the cuddles.
My D'uccles and Silkies jump on me and nest right in. My D'uccles come in the house now and then to watch some tv. xD

my ba's are friendly. My favorite is "wild chicken", I was bent down in the coop rubbing one of the br's and she jumped up on my back and climbed up on my head ( tomorrow she will be 10 weeks ) needless to say her feet where dirty..she just wanted love!

Thanks for the replies!

These photos alone have made me want an orpington! D: Love the chick at the table

They look so relaxed about being handled, i'm very jealous! I held mine as chicks all the time hoping it would make them tamer but they hate being touched at all. And chickens can swim!? :O .
