Howdy all!
I just started incubating ducks for fun, and on June 30th we got our first successful hatchling, Survivor!
Given our flock is 2 muscovies (one Lavender male one Black Whitehead female) and 8 mallard-derived breeds (all girls), you can see how quickly I guessed the father, lol
After 4 weeks of growth though, the plumage has definitely thrown me for a spin, especially the chest, neck, eyes, and general chocolate color. So though I know Muscovy x Muscovy is far more likely to succeed, I know hybrids are plausible, and my beginner brain can't help but wonder if our Appleyard (his other favorite) is a potential parent.
Given that, the folks here definitely know much more than I do. So I thought I'd come here to figure out if little Survivor is a mule or 'scovy, male or female, and any other fun insights y'all could offer in helping me figure those two variables out in the future.
Thanks!
