Hi there BYCers!

I have a couple of questions for you all. I woke this morning to my first egg from my Black Sexlink (at least I think she is the one that's laying) and a few hours later I found another egg! I was under the impression that young pullets will

only lay one egg per day?!! Is this true? How many of you have pullets/chickens that lay multiple eggs a day? I was so excited to find my first egg this morning!!! I have been waiting 5 long months for this :D

I'd suspect two layers.

It is so extremely unlikely that there would be 2 eggs in one day. Normally it takes about 25 hours from ovulation to complete the egg production and ovulation doesn't occur again for at least an hour after the last egg is laid.

All things are possible but when I think I have a bird laying more than one a day, my first guess is that I screwed up.

Are you sure you don't have more than one laying as it is unlikely the same chicken laid both?

The beginnings of the egg are created in the ovaries about 24 to 26 hours apart so that at any time, the chicken has a number of eggs in various states of development in her reproductive tract BUT they are 'finished' in hierarchy so the hen lays only one per day.

Thank you!! I assumed it was the same chicken because the eggs were eerily similar. However, this must mean that my Mottled Java is also laying which is fabulous news! Just waiting for my Easter Egger now :)

I know what You mean I can't wait to find brown and green eggs
