Multiple Fairy Eggs

Someone or some”ones” in my flock of 8 girls is laying fairy eggs! I’ve had three over the course of the last month. Two looked similar, one was a lighter color. The first time it happened, I suspect it was my 2 year old light Brahma, but I’m not completely sure. It could be my 11 month old Wyandotte, but I’m not sure about that either. I have no idea what’s up...

Oh, and the eggs have been perfectly normal other than size! Sitting here scratching my head...

Any young birds in your flock? They're such cute little eggs.

Seven of the eight are two years old in July. The other one was hatched last Memorial Day, so will be one next week.

I found this in the common egg quality problems article.
14. Yolk-less egg aka fart egg, fairy egg, witch egg, rooster egg or oops eggs



These tiny eggs may or may not have a yolk. Yolk-less fart eggs are often called rooster eggs. These little eggs are often much darker than normal, as they spend more time in the shell gland pouch and gets an extra layer or two of pigment. These yolk-less eggs sometimes form when:

- The hen's oviduct releases a small piece of reproductive tissue or another small foreign mass enters the hen's oviduct, triggering the regular formation of an egg. The foreign object will be treated like a normal yolk and enveloped in albumen, membranes and a shell;

- Occasionally a hen will also lay a fart egg when something disturbs her reproductive cycle;

- Young pullets may lay a fart egg or two when coming into lay and is still getting their reproductive systems in gear.

My regular flock has just finished

molt and my new pullets (black Copper Marans & light Brahamas are just beginning to lay at the same time.
Here's some of their fairy eggs next to their full size eggs for comparison. This is not an on-going problem, just normal at their life stages.

Oh, BTW, these are NOT from the new hens. Their eggs are much darker.
