Hi all!
I hatched a back of orpingtons that are a month old now. I had two chicks die within two weeks of one another from problems with rye neck. Despite my best efforts I couldn't save them. They seemed to be eating and drinking fine and I was giving vitamins and vitamin e supplements 2 x per day. I have another hatch in a seperate brooder that are 2 weeks old and 2 of those babies just show signs of rye neck as well. Has anyone ever dealt with this before?

What are the chicks eating? If they were hatched without wry neck and develop it over time, you should look into the chick feed, it may not be great.

I'm sorry to hear that.
What doses are you giving?
Are these eggs from your own birds? If so, what's their diet?
Yes from my own birds. They eat organic feed and healthy treats like greens, fly larvae and black sunflower seeds. The chicks r on non medicated feed no treats. I just found it odd it was happening in 2 different brooders. Both brooders r inside and cleaned daily. I don't know if it's a deficiency from parent birds or a disease they r somehow passing? If I lose another bird I'm sending it to get tested.

What's the feed? What is the protein level?
You might need to invest in a vitamin supplements to give your breeders. How often do they get treats.
Grubs and boss are actually unhealthy treats, they're pretty fatty.

One of my 6 wk old chicks I hatched out I think has this. I just went out and found her like this. She seemed fine and now she is having trouble holding her head up. I am feeding Purina Chick Starter.

I brought my gal inside last night and tube fed her every hour. This morning she is eating on her own so she is back w the others. I guess I caught it quick. Gave her liquid vitamins and liquid feed. I am not sure if she hit her head or just had a nutritional deficiency. All the other chicks are fine. My first experience with wry neck; thankful she seems ok, at least for now. Will keep an eye on her.
