Well, Sharon has been returned to the for a few days now. The other silkie roo went after him a bit and there was more bloodshed (not near as much). They seem to have settled their differences so far, but should any more problems arise one will have to go. My 3 EE roo's don't cause any issues like this! They scuffle amongst each other but never anything serious, and they do more as far as trying to mount the girls and they're almost a month younger! Ugh. Does anyone know if silkie meat tastes the same as "normal" chickens? LOL. Crazy thing is, all 4 boys are crowing now, except for Sharon. I guess he's just a little confused?

I've heard silkie meat, (black skin, meat and bones, right?) is more healthy than white meat. Otherwise, it tastes like chicken.

Good to know. I'm always up for trying something new. I'm guessing if it's gonna be either of them it'll be the one that crows constantly and is more aggressive. This being our first year with roo's is making me not want to have any ever again!

Roosters lower in the pecking-order sometimes just don't crow.

Silkies don't taste any different to other chooks, some people just don't like the black skin on them.

Personally I would only keep Sharon as she's the best example of a proper silkie and whichever of your 3 breeding Roos has the nicest temperament. Once there are only 2 roosters Sharon will probably start to mate, though he may not crow while there is another adult roo around. My silkie roo only crows 2-3 times a month but the boss roo crows early morn and a bit thought the day

Yes I was discussing it with hubby. We do have a very well insulated coop but because of our climate I still prefer small combed birds. I think the other silkie and the EE that I'm least fond of color wise will go. All of the EE's seem to be about the same temperment (low on the totem pole).

Those are my three EE boys, and the pullet is the last one pictured. They are all very well behaved and rarely scuffle. They get bossed around by all the girls. I'm thinking of letting the middl one with the black beard go.
