Murray McMurray Hatchery?

@Birdsonghill awe! Those babies are adorable!! I am so glad it turned out so well for you! I’m hoping for the same!! I got a notification that mine were in a town about 2 hours from me and that they were still in transit. It’s supposed to get down to 27 degrees tonight so I hope they are spending the night in a building!! Well I will be hoping for a call in the morning and I’ll keep you guys updated!!

I stopped worrying about the USPS tracking info years ago! It was too inaccurate and "worrysome" They will show a shipment at a distribution center, hundreds of miles away and 30 minutes later, I get a call from my local post office to come pick up the birds! If bad things happen and it stretches into four days , that is horrible! It has happened to me once, about 10 years ago. The birds, if handled carefully, will be ok , if delivered on the third day of life, that is common. Four days and some weak and dead birds may be the result! I saved many of them when received like this, but it is sad. Call your local post office this morning to insure they don't delay in calling you! Be humble, friendly and concerned about the babies and you may get faster/priority service there! If the worse happens , reputable hatcheries will refund your losses of birds. I am rooting for you and your ducklings!

I was very surprised when my phone rang at 6:30 this morning and woke me up. It was my PO calling to let me know the ducklings were in. I was out of the house by 8:00 (my alarm doesn't go off until 8:30 normally), picked up my babies and got home to make coffee for my hubby before he woke up!

Yay! I woke up at 5 waiting for a call and I ended up missing the call! They called at 8 and 45 minutes later I see that they called my mobile not my house... I went right over to the PO and picked them up! They are all alive and active!! They got dropped off at the distribution center in California on a Monday and they were at our PO by Thursday! image.jpg image.jpg Now I’m just picking my last one up at L&M this afternoon and that’ll be it! I can’t believe how active they are!!

I definitely didn't expect that these ladies would get here today. They got to the San Jose distribution center late Tuesday evening and got here (central NC) by Thursday morning. I didn't set their crib up last night because I thought that would jinx us. 😂 Especially since the PO said not to expect them before Friday evening. A few looked tired and kinda "off" when we first got home but after some water with Save-a-chick they're all very active and talking non-stop. I keep joking that they're talking about how they flew across the whole country to get here.

The pictures make me want to get ducks again! I have been enjoying the efforts of my next door neighbor's ducks, without the work! I love duck eggs. My last ducks came from Metzers, through a partnership order with a friend. They were outstanding Pekins and enjoyed as pets, food and especially duck fat roasted potatoes! It never fails that many die of old age for me. However I try, I become too attached to some and they live a life of ease till time catches them. I have toyed with the idea of the Silver Apple Yard Ducks this year, but felt I might be biting off more than I can chew in projects. Maybe next year!
