Murray McMurray hatchery???????

I'm almost positive I got a blue Cochin but it doesn't have enough feathers to tell boy or girl, also it may be a little pricey but I would get all vaccinations and gel things as possible, that's what I did.

im suppose to be getting my peeps monday, tuesday or wednesday next week. excited.

i ordered the marek and coccidiosis vaccines, and the pollorum certificates, not that id need it, but it was $1. the other stuff i can get at my feed store so i didnt worry about that.

curious about the mystery chicks breed. because i asked for a cold hardy breed so that will narrow it down, plus i ordered silver polish chicks so i doubt they will send a polish breed. hoping they dont send me another easter egger, i already have enough of those. found a home for the NH Reds but still looking for homes for 2 of my EE roosters (15 weeks old) so im REALLY hoping they dont give me an EE rooster

I guess an extra $15 for vaccinations and gels, is a good "insurance" for baby chicks that by the time shipping cost and minimum orders, you have close to $5 into each chick

I always order the vaccinations and the quik chick.
We have Mareks around here, so it is given, I vaccinate home-grown chicks also.
We have had coccidia here and having the coccidia vaccination given is just easier than using medicated feed, it seems to work just as well... remember you do not use medicated feed with coccidia vaccinated chicks... and you still probably should do the slow introduction to the outside world to let them build up their immunity to whatever you have in your environment.
The Quik Chick is cheaper shipped with the chicks than by itself and all I find easily around here is the general livestock mix that is a higher concentration and again it is just easier to use the Quik Chick for a few days on little chicks.
Ime, McM puts made up grow-gel in the box with the chicks to eat when they ship them, you can order an extra bag of it if you like, I generally do not since I find it messy to use. If you think because of where you live the chicks will have a hard trip, I probably would order it.
There are a couple of threads around here about the McM mystery chicks. I usually get polish or cochins lately it seems, have gotten a few other breeds. I have never gotten a polish when I have ordered polish, so I bet you will get a cochin if you ordered polish, the way they have been going lately, wanna bet it will be a blue cochin.

This is the year of the Blue Cochin it looks like. Hope yours is a girl for you, that is if you want a girl, they do make pretty big fluffy roosters.

Wondering if anyone has ordered the cuckoo maran's from McMurray and how dark their eggs are turning out. I was just on another site that was saying sometimes hatchery birds don't have the true dark chocolate egg color that you might get from a private breeder? No idea if this is true or not, i'm waiting on my first order of chocolate eggers to arrive August 12th. Can't complain about McMurray from past experience, I have 8 beautiful birds from them from my last order! And 4 of my 5 from the straight run (silver laced cochins) ended up being hens (We're pretty sure anyway)

I and a friend have had 10 cuckoo marans from McM over the last two years, The eggs were maybe a 3-4 on that brown egg scale at their darkest. The CM eggs are more "brown" brown and didn't have much of a reddish tint to them. About half the CMs laid speckled eggs with darker brown spots, especially at the beginning. If you want really dark eggs you are pretty much going to have to go with a private breeder who breeds for egg color, usually the Black Copper Marans lay the darkest eggs. I've been quite happy with McM overall and they are my favorite big hatchery. It sounds like you really got lucky with your straight run birds being girls, always nice when that happens.

So far all of my birds have been from MMcM. I have ordered 57 birds from them in total, all have arrived healthy and on time and the service has been great. My first batch of chickens are 15 weeks old and healthy! I will continue to order form them.

looking like i got another Easter Egger as my mystery chick. its odd since i thought they usually dont pick a breed that is already in the order and i had 2 EE pullets in the order. kinda disappointed really

and at that, i think its a cockerel. took me a few months to rehome my extra 2 roosters (last one went last month)
