Murray McMurray hatchery???????

I talked to mmh yesterday over the phone. Last year I ordered 25 blue laced red wyandottes hoping to get Atleast all 3 varieties as they state in there description.... well I got 25 splash. I was very pleased with the condition of the birds and am still pleases with the outcome. 15 hens total from the 25. Well I called yesterday because I was going to order more but didn't want to wind up with all splash. I asked what variety of rooster and hens were used to get there chicks. Well the lady on the phone turned into a complete bi##h. Told me she couldn't share that because it was a secret. LOL.... it's not a secret if your breeding a splash roo to splash hens you get 100% splash offspring. Anyway to make a long story short if you want all splash blrw then go with them. They lost my business

I just ordered 25 chicks from them how can I find out what post office they will be shipped to. I would like to get them as soon as I can. we don't have post offices open on sundays so I'm really worryed. they really should send them so they aren't stuck at a closed post office glad to hear they replace or refund but still aggrea sad to see dead baby's.

They will be shipped to which ever post office delivers your mail to your shipping address. You need to contact that post office, let them know you have a live chick order coming and request that they call you as soon as they are received if you want to go pick them up rather than have them ride around in a mail truck all day. My post office always calls me about 6 a.m. to let me know mine are there and peeping up a storm.

I just noticed you are in Massachusetts. Given the weather hope that there are no delays in them getting to your post office and be prepared for the worst (hopefully it will not be) with the weather you have been having there is a good chance some of your chicks will not survive the cold.

thanks! big help. yes I going pick them up at the post office. the hatchery tells me when they are sent so I will have everything warm and ready for them. the weather has bin real bad but we have a no substitute order so they said it all depend on what hatches. I may get them this Friday to Tuesday the earliest I'm also worried about weather this form has helped a lot about them getting a chill I didn't know this and if I would have I would have waited. I will plan for the worst and hope for the best.

i ordered from McMurray for the 1st time and i was very happy how they answered my questions and i got my chicks 2 weeks ago and all of them are healthy and not 1 died! i will order from them again in the future for sure, the only thing i didn't like a whole lot was for my free "rare" chicks they gave me a barred rock! i don't know about you but i wouldn't say that a barred rock is rare and exotic chicken breed!!!! but its doing fine i'm thinking its a rooster so i'll have to get rid of him when he starts to crow.

HERE ARE SOME OF THE CHICKS I ORDERED:

Had 27 chicks arrive in Montana this morning from McMurray, all alive and toasty warm. Had 27 dead chicks arrive last week. Read that heat packs are often used with chicks in cold weather but there were none in with last week's batch. I asked if I could pay for a heat pack and they added $2.50 to the order to pay for it. Although this week was actually colder than last week, they arrived in great shape. The heat pack made the difference. Wish McMurray would offer heat packs on their order form for winter orders.

I've never really subscribed to the anti-hatchery crowd. Most of the complaints I hear from people:

1) they have a minimum order (of course they do, it helps retain warmth and they don't get jostled as much)

2) shipping took longer than advertised (that is the fault of the USPS/FedEx/DHL/UPS/OnTrac... and it is the nature of the beast)

3) some/all chicks were dead on arrival (you're shipping infant chickens across country - in winter months)

Most of the big hatcheries have awesome and safe breeding programs as well as maintaining very hygienic facilities. Better than the "local breeder" in most cases. Not to knock the little guy but we've all seen those sketchy little operations that aren't under scrutiny because they don't make much money doing it.

I like them and they are the only hatchery I have ever ordered from. I tried my pet chicken this year because there were a few breeds that I wanted that MM did not have. But my first order was all little bantam's and I did lose some but again I agree with bwalden:

" You cant always blame the hatchery. Postal handling can be a major factor as well."

They were tiny and probably got jostled and stepped on each other. and I lost a couple.

My bigger chicken order I have never lost any of them and my surprise free chicks are always fun! I literally just placed my order today and I get my chickens next week. I only had to order 15 chicks. If I don't want something I'll sell it locally.

I do not think their quality is the best but they are nice birds and healthy and temperament wise they have all been sweet. Could be my little girls handling them 24/7. I don't show birds I just like lawn art so the quality is fine and their service has always been wonderful and super patient when I change my order 5x without charging me like other hatcheries do.

I too love MMH. I've ordered chicks from them 3 times. Never had one arrive dead.

The last batch was shipped in January. I got a call from my local post office at 5AM on a Friday. It was snowing and about 25 degrees. Every chick was healthy and happy.

I want to order to Muscovy ducks but MMH doesn't have any. Anyone out there know of a good place to buy some ducklings?
