Murray McMurray hatchery???????

I found a few on Craigslist that look promising.

There's a hatchery within 20 miles of my house that sells them. The problem is, they require a minimum of 10 even if you pick them up. At $15.00 each for ducklings. Straight run only. That seems a bit much to me. They won't be getting any business from me.

I got my order yesterday and all of the chicks are alive and there was a heat pack under the straw stuff they put in the box. Someone said that they don't put heat packs in but that's never happened in my orders. They are all strong thriving LOUD little chicks lol.

That is great!!! It's such a relief to have the chicks at home.

I was the one who posted that McMurray did not put in a heat pack. That was back in February when the temperatures were in the teens and the chicks arrived cold and dead. If I hadn't paid for a heat pack for the reship the next week I'm afraid I would have had another box of cold chicks. However, I did pay for the heat pack and the chicks arrived warm. After 5 weeks I have 21 out of 27 still doing well. Lost two a week the first three weeks. I'll finally get to see them in a month. Pictures are nice but getting to actually see them would be nicer.

LOL I thought of your post after I placed my order and thought about the heat pack the whole time. I thought I should double check on the heat pack because I assumed it would be included. (I forgot, prior to shipping, to check) I can't believe they charged you for one really. I actually looked for it when I got my chicks just in case because I wanted to say whether people should ask for one like you did. I got a call saying that my chicks would be delivered on SUNDAY? I don't know of anyone who delivers on a Sunday so I was sure that they would be sitting in a post office somewhere. (heat pack? heat pack? running through my head) I expected at least 1 dead chick, but they were all quite LOUD and happy and I was relieved.

I have never shipped chicks in Feb. Pretty sure it's always been April/May for me and this is the first year I lived in a place that was colder than my last home. They have done good by me so far. But the more informed the better about shipping chicks.

It makes me upset when I hear about others who got a heat pack in with their order. Why didn't I with my first order? Why did McMurray charge me $2.50 on my reorder for something they give out to others? I did read that they regularly put heat packs in with bantam chicks. Mine were not bantams. Could that be the difference?

i dont know.. mine were not bantams either. im sorry to hear about you chicks

... thats just a waste. just to think about those poor helpless chicks freeze to death and it could have been stopped if the hatchery put in a $2.50 heat pack for free... now they lost money because of it...

i wonder maybe they person who put them in the box forgot or they thought they already had a pack in there.
