How many, what kind you ordered? One casualty out of 40 isn't bad in the bigger scheme of things. The replacement order from Murray McMurray was fine. All the birds survived, although one of them seemed to have some kind of birth defect and ended up dying about a week after arrival.
I guess we will see what the summer brings. Happy Clucking, Ya'll.
I’m so sorry for your tragedy with the chicks.Ordered 40 assorted babies last year for delivery in March. They were shipped on the 3rd and arrived on the 4th. Half of them were dead. In addition, Murray decided to replace about 20% of the order, replacing several more expensive chicks for plain White leghorns. Anyway, I called and got a scheduled reship to replace the dead birds, gave them an earful about the crappy replacements they sent me, hung up the phone.
Then, this morning I get a phone call from the post office. A box of dead chicks waiting for me. What in the hell?
Murray sent my 40+ chick order TWICE. The second time they sent it on the 5th, despite their supposed policy of only sending on Mondays and Tuesdays. And then the PO lost the box and it showed up this morning, another box of dead birds from Murray McMurray...
I am sick about this. Absolutely sick to my stomach. I love my birds and seeing not 1 but 2 boxes full of dead ones due to no fault of my own is really hitting me hard. I just wanted to vent and see if anyone else has had this kind of problem this year.
Why should the pay for your vet bill?I’m so sorry for your tragedy with the chicks.
Murray McMurray is not the same as it used to be! I, too, placed an order this year. I received the order a day later than usual. The chicks died…one by one.
I took them to the vet to determine what the chicks were sick with. They were treated for myoplasmosis, so they came sick.
I called Murray McMurray to tell them and ask them to pay my vet bill of $96. I was professional and respectful. I didn’t yell or use profanity. However, Murray McMurray closed my account and told me that I could never order from them again. I am shocked.
Murray McMurray punishes customers who question their wrongdoing.
Has anyone else had something like this?
How were they brooded when you got them? Do you have other birds on your property? The chicks died…one by one.

I have a business now after years of careful brooding. They were inside the house under a 250watt red heat lamp in a metal trough brooder. I’ve taken care of thousands of chicks. I know that they came sick because of what the vet treated them for.How were they brooded when you got them? Do you have other birds on your property?
No. the vet treated them for a disease the chicks are born with. Why should the pay for your vet bill?
And it wasn't their fault they arrived a day late, that was the mail's fault.
Yep. Me too. Got sick chicks May 2025 from Murray McMurray. I was upset and called them. They closed my account without telling me. Something happened to Murray McMurray. That’s the kind of stuff that really makes me hate the internet or more social media at times. When you search for help in making the best decision about which hatchery to choose, you have to decipher between made-up stories and real ones! Then, of course, you have the scammers. Not in your case but people do come here with made up stories.
Just a day or two someone posted a pic of "their" hen asking the breed. It was a watermarked pic that was from all over the web.
idk why people do those things but it does happen quite a bit. Attention maybe?
