I just heard about it and my salmon faverolles where affected!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

What was your total order?

I had 12 different breeds, with 3 pairs thr same, a total of 15 for free shipping. When I called back, they had removed 3 affected breeds, leaving me with 12. I added a Delaware, but after talking to the rep, she said they removed the 15 bird requirement for free shipping for orders affected by AI changes, so if I didn’t want any other available breeds I could just get my 13. I decided on that. Hopefully I can get a Marans and White Orpington next year. I reeeeeeealy wanted a Marans, didn’t order soon enough to get a BCM so went with the cuckoo, but looks like their entire Marans stock was affected. The rep was so nice. I feel terrible for the company. She was so cooperative and willing to work with me to figure out something I would be ok with, and said anyone affected will get access to order early for next year. So hopefully I’ll get a Marans next time. Hatcheries like this are one of the only ways people can get a beautiful variety of chicks, and if they lose their stock chicken keeping will have a lot less variety and be a lot more expensive for the average backyard chicken hobbyist.

I want to do the same thing you are doing, they are coming May 2. do you think they will send me the chicks that didn't get affected like what they did to you?

I would send an email to them, telling them you prefer to keep your order as-is, with the extra chick, minus the affected birds. I know they are calling in the order of order dates, trying to do the April orders first, but I actually got through to online chat (but it was about an hour after the email went out so I don’t think customers knew about it then). The rep was super nice. I’m sure they are willing to work with you. They don’t want a bunch of canceled orders, and I figured a few missing chicks is better than canceling my whole order. I canceled my order when they emailed me, all my order except 2 chicks were affected. I ordered from Mt. Healthy for $26 more, but I'm happy with my second order. I'm very glad that only one barn was affected even though it's a huge loss for them. It seems that the more common breeds were affected, it would be heartbreaking for their new apa lines to be culled.

I canceled my order when they emailed me, all my order except 2 chicks were affected. I ordered from Mt. Healthy for $26 more, but I'm happy with my second order. If my Whitings were affected, I would have postponed my order til next year. Very happy that I had 12 chicks unaffected so I could keep my order! I am ordering Specked Sussex & Salmon Faverolle locally instead…it’s the Marans that was a huge disappointment to me. Seems like McMurray lost every feather legged large fowl breed plus a few more…

Mt healthy still has marans I believe if you're really interested, their chicks are a little more but they don't charge shipping just small order fee. I'm waiting to see the quality of their birds but I haven't heard anything bad so far. I hope they throw in some extra girls for the price I paid.

My suusex and lakenvelders were affected, I was looking forward to the lakenvelders, I've never had chickens that layed white eggs. BTW, the French Marans we have from Cackle have all been very nice. Black coppers, wheatons, and cuckoo.
This is such a sad situation for MMcM, hope no further disasters for them, or any other places.
