What breed or type of chicks did you get?

I ordered the brown-egg laying assortment. I can definitely see 1 turken, 3-4 cochin, butt the rest are a mystery. There are 2 brown striped ones that look like chipmunks! Could that be dark Cornish?? I have no clue.. :)

On the comments on the chicks not making it in the mail, I just wanted to make a suggestion that if you can, wait for April shipments. I have had bad experiences in the past too in February and find that the temperatures in some areas in February are unusually hard on chicks.

I think the chipmunk-colored chicks could be Ameraucana or "Easter Egger" (if they don't meet the standards). But those usually lay blue or green eggs.

Here is a picture.

It could also be Welsummer, which has that coloring. Or any chicken with partridge coloring will probably have that chipmunk coloring as a chick.

could be dark cornish, or partridge rocks. We got that assortment last year and got both. LOVE them! We've always had good luck with MM, but then again we get to pick ours up since they are local.

I have ordered from them several times thru the years, always the heavy breed or rainbow assortment. I like a varied color egg basket. No issues with shipping or dead chicks. I would buy from them again. (*only truly evil roo I ever had was two or three different "free" chicks that were polish roos. Mean, evil, little monsters they were.) Man, I sound like yoda in that sentence.

This is our first time owning chickens and we ordered from MM. We bought 25 and ended up with 27 (extra for warmth, in case some are roosters, etc.) and they arrived this past Sunday (26). We made sure that we shipped directly to the main post office and we drove there and picked them up. They were shipped Saturday and arrived Sunday morning/early afternoon. I think this made the difference for us; I don't think they would have survived the night and made it to the morning without food, water, and warmth. I would suggest trying to get the chicks on Sunday and being a nuisance about it. We got all the inside numbers, requested they call us Sunday when they arrived and not to be transported to the closer postal office. It is worth whatever amount of time to drive; a lady drove two hours to get her chicks because they died the last time they were shipped closer to her. Postal service seems to be the issue with chick death, not MM. Our chicks are a week old and surviving great! All are healthy, alert, and growing like weeds!

Postman just called and said my replacement order was all dead. He said they should have never shipped over a long weekend (they lady from MM said they would ship Tuesday for that reason- NOT TRUE). I will ask for a refund and NEVER buy from them again. BUY LOCAL!!

ok, just for reference

more often then not, the reason chicks end up dead is cause of the post office, NOT the hatchery, MM is a great hatchery, i reccomend them!!! The most we have gotten dead is 1, and thats cause of splayed leg, and it was summer so the post office didnt deal with them, im gonna be a little blunt like the guy in my 'my chicks came dead' thread

DONT BLAME THE HATCHERY! MM is a good hatchery, I can almost gurrantee that it was the post offices fault they arrived dead, OK, and for some people buying local isnt an option..

Completely agree! I would order from MM again in a heartbeat and our chicks are thriving! I would never buy local; I hear so many horror stories with that!
