I would give them another chance too. Just be VERY AWARE of weather conditions when they are to be shipped. Bad weather will cause delays; that is no bodys fault. Ive ordered from them before and will again; they are a wonderful company.
Don't quote me, but I believe the warm pack from My Pet Chicken is about $25 by itself. And you can probably blame the Post Office for that one, not the hatchery.
I do want to amend my statement, though. Yes, four days delivery time is on the P.O.'s head, not the hatchery's, however, you need to take into consideration the weather where the hatchery is located, where you are located and all points in between when ordering chicks. It may just be too cold, period, to get chicks delivered by mail.
I am so sorry about your loss. People have to remember that February in Iowa is harsh!!!! Chicks really shouldnt be ordered until much later in March to really have a chance. Just because they have them for sale doesnt mean it is a good idea to buy this early. I am sure they will replace them but I certainly would see if you could wait about 3 to 4 weeks longer for the delivery. Our weather is just been on the fritz lately and we have another chance of snow tomorrow and temps below 0 overnight. The only time I would suggest someone ordering this early is if you are in the very southern states so that the chicks will be heading south. I sure hope things turn out ok for you!!! Jenn
Is it just me or does it seem that there have been a lot of dead chicks from Murray lately? Is it a seasonal thing, does this happen every year at this time? I have seen others who have gotten chicks from other hatchery's and there's arrived fine but every time there is a dead chicks thread they seem to have come from Murray's? Just wondering!
We were hit with a blizzard over the weekend. That is why everyones chicks didnt make it. Hardly anything moved over the weekend. It is neither McMurrays or the POs fault that they didnt make it. That is the chances you take ordering this early in the year. It is still winter in Iowa. Please everyone think about that when you are ordering chicks. You cant order from Iowa in February!! Check and see where the hatcheries are and order from the southern states if you need to have chicks that badly... We have winter storms all the way through March sometimes. It is real bad this year. I know Paganfish (hope that's right) order came from Welp's-also in Iowa. Honestly, it's the weather. It's just way too cold to be shipping baby chicks that require a temp of 90+ degrees. I moved my orders back to March, and will be praying it's warm enough then.
