Muscovies fly?

Yes they fly. I have had my huge drakes fly.. A few of mine live in a community pen.. (well 1/2 an acre... ) and they get along with all our other ducks..

Snuggles was 3 1/2 when she started flying anywhere other than INTO the back yard.
Last Jan or Feb we found her on the neighbor's roof, the back porch roof, the other neighbor's yard, and then the dog park behind the house.
then she stopped for months (except possibly to fly into the back yard again.) and she laid eggs.

In June or July - when it was 3 million and humid - she flew out of the backyard and vanished.
We looked for her for an hour.
I pouted for 3 hours.
At 10pm the roomie heard a noise at the front door, opened it, and she walked in and went to her room (the bathroom)
A week later we clipped 5 of her primaries, in the middle, on each side.
Sometimes she forgets that she can still fly up onto my bed... and yet, she can get into the cabinet above the toilet - she flies to the sink vanity and then up. we can tell from the crashing noises and the egg she laid there. So far, though, she can't fly high anymore (till after she molts again).

With all the Muscovy issues in FL, we sure don't want her flying off and getting mated.
And also, it would break my heart. I love my bunny but my duck is my baby

i have only had one fly up to now but couldn't fly all that well.it was a hen an she flew up over the roof and into next doors garden

I don't want to lose mine either...Esme, my black and white 'scovie girl, just hatched 11 of 13 eggs she squirreled away in the storage shed...it was a holy war but I got them all pinioned...man was she mad at me...about the third time she flew at me trying to kick the snot out of me as I tried to capture the ducklings, I put her up in another pen for the duration of the process...so these little guys will not be flying anywhere...Esme hasn't forgiven me yet...she huffs and puffs and her "hair" stands up every time she sees me looking at her little darlings...she is amazing...always watching for big evil me...just in case I might want to touch her ducklings again...

Couple of my girls when they were younger flew down to the river, well them being solid white they glow in the dark and I was so worried about them, but the next day the Muscovy drake that lived at the river brought them home, needless to say he also stayed. He is 8 years old now and I love him to pieces, so do the girls.

Before I brought home my 2 new girls, the breeder sent me a message saying that one of them had to get her wing clipped before she went anywhere. That was after spotting her on the roof of their 2 story house! A well-trimmed wing grounds them quite well!
