Muscovies in US - REGULATION CHANGES OPEN FOR COMMENTS - 10/1 update

I shared this petition on my facebook. Is anyone inclined to make a facebook site for this petition? I know the large majority of my friends on there are animal lovers of some sort and would sign the petition even if they do not own ducks, because of the effect this has on anyone who owns animals. Who is to keep them from banning a breed of rabbit that originated in Belgium now? If they can make owning a breed of duck illegal there is apparently nothing they CAN'T do to make us be exactly how they want us to be.
And if anyone happens to know where I can order some muscovies to arrive before March 31 please let me know. I can and will ignore this law to the best of my ability

NO ONE in Wyoming will pay any attention to this law, and I'm sure the local sheriffs would laugh their butts off if someone tried to tattle on me or anyone else

I posted it on my fiance's facebook too. I can't believe this, I really can't.

I just stumbled across this thread tonight and now I can't sleep.... This is a ridiculous outrage to say the least!! I will look into permits tomorrow since my little outlaws here are primarily for fly control and will be used as feathered incubators, but not for a year or two. I signed the petition and I am sending emails out tomorrow, but I truly fear that we may be too late...on this law as well as for all the many doors it will open for them to add additional breeds!! I will add the link to the petition on my facebook as well as the myspace page, but even with the outcry that 50,000 BYC members could make, is it really going to make a difference? I subscribed to this topic in case someone comes back with something hugely positive....

Btw, this is Cricket, my future outlaw since I have no clue where she is laying right now

well, I am so dismayed over this. I ordered a dozen eggs last year that ended up not being muscovies- which is what I paid for. I was going to try again this spring. I have a dumb duck question- can they be banded? can dated bands be purchased? Because if so, couldnt eveyone just band their future babies with the pre-dated bands showing that they were owned prior to this ban?

I didn't see one, and I looked deep. It isn't an element of the legislation that the private owner have any redress. They made no allowance for it that I can see. A good lawyer might make a case, but it will be a tenuous one. I'm guessing you are unlikely to find one hungry enough to take it on. I hope I'm proven wrong.

But I applaud you. I don't care for them either - foul beasts, IMHO (pun intended).

But I will fight for your right to own them in the face of sweeping government lock down. Same with firearms, by the way.

Looks to me like the way it's written there aren't any loopholes. I called our state migratory bird expert yesterday but haven't heard back yet. The only thing I saw was you could raise them by permit. NC is already very strict about game bird permits but since this is federal I don't know yet. We do have an egg auction going on ebay and hopfully will each week until 3/28. I won;t be able to ship after that.

Those eggs won't hatch before the deadline!

Maybe if you have the egg in your possession before then it's OK?

ETA I don't mean to discourage anyone from getting eggs, its just that I just can't believe the absurdity of this situation.

Once again the petition link is in my sig below.
Pass it around any way you can, it's one way to help people be aware of what's going on and hopefully find some way to mitigate it.

I called Fish and Wildlife this morning, and the lady I spoke to could find nothing in her computer system about this law - she didn't even know what a muscovey duck was. I had to spell it for her.

I talked to my Department of Ag - they know nothing about this law and hadn't heard of it either.

I talked to our State Vet - and he hadn't heard of this law.

BTW: this isn't even a valid law - if it is real - because Federal Laws are only enforceable and valid IF they are put as amendments to our Federal Constitution.
