When you have a few hundred ducks living around a pond/park that is still A LOT of poo. I have 10 ducks and they create enough and they free range, a few hundred...

Thats ridiculous, you are only ASSUMING because you DON'T KNOW.

We do have one drake who is in love with my youngest daughter. She raised him from an egg, and named him Yellow. Yellow used to chase her around the yard in hopes of making her his mate. I offered to rehome the confused creature, but she said being chased by a duck was good exercise (Kids!!). Now he's old, floppy, and slow. He still comes to us for a treat, but he doesn't chase anymore. We laugh at the home videos, though, and my daughter became such an accomplished runner she's been in quite a few competitions! That's the closest we've come to "aggression" against humans.

I concede that to each other, when battling for pecking order, the drakes can be tough. They bite each other's backs and beat each other with their wings - it's impressive to see, but once the weaker one is driven off peace prevails.

No animal is 100% calm and safe and tame all of the time. I've even been chomped by a pet hamster - should we stop kids from interacting with animals entirely, to keep them "safe"?

OK i am going to agree.

It's rare for a drake to become aggrisive, but they do happen.

I had both aggressive and non-aggressive drakes, since Muscovy drakes are such large birds they could do a lot of damage to a young kid or even an adult if they decided to attack. I'm not saying they all are, but with that many ducks you are bound to have several that will attack.

Even though I love ducks they could at Least butcher them and give the meat to homeless shelters and what not.
Makes no sense in just killing them when a huge muscovy drake could feed a whole family.

I understand they are overpopulating BUT gassing them is not the answer. It would be a miracle if they actually find all of the muscovy nests but it would help a ton if they find about 10 or more nests every month or so because muscovys are very prolific with haveing 15-20+ eggs under one female.

Whoever said they feed the ducks sorry but you need to stop, you could get a HUGE fine for doing so.

That's why I scoff at town council blowing up over 110 ducks...

The last time I heard it wasn't the council it was the Home Owners Association.
You know the Rich people that think only dogs and cats are proper animals and every other animal should be in a zoo.

So your saying that all Muscovy drakes should be gentle just because Yellow was?

What if it was a park full of german shephard dogs that were usually friendly but an attack was possible?

Well if they want to get rid of invasive (non-native) and aggressive species my hubby would be the first tell you that all Yankees can go back home.

Also all of the snow birds can stay away.

of course he is a 4th generation native to Florida, and can remember white sand beaches here on our coast and woods and wildlife everywhere.

That's just my sarcastic sense of humor! OF COURSE I don't know what's going on behind the scenes in Ocala - BUT I grew up in a small town (and I live in one now), and I do know from experience shady deals are fairly often made as a result of nepotism and so on, in these settings.
