I have 5 Muscovy (3 hens 2 drakes) and a Swedish Drake and 2 hens. Since Muscovy cannot fertilize or be fertilized by any of the other breeds I'm thinking I can house them together and get pure eggs. Is my thinking clouded? The run is very large, 60' X 80' and has it's own stream running through it so there is plenty of room and habitat.

Yor drakes will fight most likely and even though the off spring of your Muscovy to Pekin will be sterile they will produce these mules and then their eggs will not be fertile. If my understanding is correct. Hows your female Mcovie doing that had the eye problem?

She is doing good, I spray her with the antibiotic 3 times a day. I think I am going to give her a bath. If I use baby shampoo will that be safe? She is all crusty where she had the puss dry, there is no more puss just the horrible looking eye. I can see her eye so I don't think she is blind.

Thanks for the info on the scovies and Swedish. I thought the eggs would not be fertile I did not know they would throw mules, defiantly will separate.

Most would say Dawn dish washing soap, but around the face you wouldn't want to use it so I'd just use the baby shampoo on her face. can she get into a pool? if so she'll clean herself up. Glad to hear she is doing good.

She has a natural stream she can get into, I had them in a smaller coop and run with a pool and moved them to the larger area with the stream yesterday, they all were really enjoying the water but I did not see her get in.
Honestly, i'd skip the soap some warm water and a gentle wiping should be enough.
Thanks for the tip,

Muscovy ducks can and will breed with other breeds.
If you have the muscovy drake cross with the swedish hens, or the muscovy hens cross with the swedish drake, the offspring will be sterile. This means that the female offspring will lay eggs, but they not hatch even if they mate with a drake. And the drakes can mate with other hens, but they will not be able to fertilize the hens.

Your drakes will mate with any/all hens they can catch. So if you have both breeds in the same pen, do not assume you will get pure ducklings. Even if it looks like they are only hanging out with their own breed, and you don't see the drakes mating, it will happen!
