Muscovy duck Q&A

Pics
Think I may have found a way to stabilize temp in incubator,. I put some ice cubes in it since the light raises temp a little to much and also doubles as a humidity raiser. Will keep everyone

No incubator stays perfectly constant. Heaters kick on, and kick off. As long as your basic average works out, then you should be fine. No extreme hot times, no extreme low times. Even when your thermometer dips, the eggs stay more constant.

Are you using a fan to circulate the air? How many thermometers are you using? It's best to use more than one for temp and humidity and use the average. Sorry, I'm tuning in late but are these muscovy eggs your incubating?

Yes Muscovy eggs. I only have one thermometer right now have a fan that I use to put in my clients homes when I built av component cabinets in entertainment centers, has a built in thermostat. Really nice fan system kicks on and off on its own,. But I only have an 85 watt flood lamp bulb so it really heats up. Until I get to town to buy a 75 watt bulb I'm doing what I can

Understand making do while you have to, been there done that, lol...

Might want to get a few bulbs cuz I think 75w might still be a bit warm... I suggest getting a 60w, 40w and maybe even a 25w... though I think most that use 25w use 2 of those, but I'm not sure...

I built a really big incubator you can prob check out my pics in my profile. Had a 60 watt in there and it was only raising temp to around 86 degrees

That's why I chose 85 watt cause I needed to get up up 13.5 degrees didn't think 15 watts would do the trick. Oops. It's the first time I've built or experimented with incubation. Got a learning curve thing going on

Ah... I'm on mobile so searching pics is a pain, lol... most of the large homemade bators using light bulbs work best if you have 2 or more sockets installed... might want to see if you can add to it... there's also the danger of 1 bulb burning out while you're not home or asleep and it risking dropping temp too far... just a thought... :)

Glad to help... :)

Yep, that's what I usually do, but my phone memory and SD card are currently full so it's giving me issues navigating BYC right now... :/

for you. Incubating Muscovy eggs can be difficult. Using and new incubator can be risky. Did you get the one you asked about? Best to have a back up. Good luck.
