Muscovy Duck Temperament

Well,,,,, we are being offered two females and one drake... The million dollar question is do we get all three or just the two females for Yakky or just the one female?????

Just watch out for those claws! These are not your everyday Pekins. Those babies are long and sharp and mine know how to use them.
Did anyone tell you they like to roost? Get all of them, they are so quiet you wonder why you hesitated. I enjoy just setting with mine and feeding them treats in the afternoon.

If I had the choice I would only keep muscovy! Adore the breed and keep several. My favorite hen, Huey. Look close for a surprise:

The claws are sharp. My girls will fly and land on my shoulder for a treat. Not so good in a tank top! They come in so many colors, and each one is a different personality. They fly well, will roost in trees, on house and barn roofs. Hatches go 35 days instead of 28. I have never had a human aggressive scovy, but hens are fierce defenders of the ducklings. Drakes even if raised together will likely fight during breeding season. My 2 oldest hens raised 3 broods of ducklings this year. I honestly have not a negative thing to say about them! I do keep pekin, rouen and a few other duck breeds, hands down the Muscovy win. They are actually a cousin of the duck, and are "quackless" unless terribly frightened. They do lay seasonally, my oldest girls just finished the 3rd hatches this week.
