muscovy duckling with no coordination

She is on day 64 I think so yes, she could have them any time now. But cat's temps are supposed to drop when close to labor, not rise. They should never be above about 102 and she was at 103 last we checked. Hopefully there is nothing wrong inside her and she is just stressed or something. :\ I dunno. I hope your animals get better, It sucks to have to watch animals go through this stuff.

Another BYCer, featherfinder, had what she thought was a micro muscvoy. If I remember correctly, it took a while to grow and had some problems. I think it did eventually grow to normal size but I also think it ended up being a drake and she couldn't keep it. Keep this one quiet and contained, monitor eating and get some vitamins if you are able. I think it is great when people will go to extraordinary lengths to get care for one of their animals. I don't keep mine as pets but I do everything that I can to ensure that they have a good, healthy, happy life.
Good luck with your duckie.

Thanks, and yes it does. I hope your animals get better also. I always wanted to go to school to be a vet or a vet assistant... But then I sucked at school when I was in school and am not sure it would be much different now. Oh by the way, your avatar looks just like our dog. Is that your dog in the pic? Ours is a Plotthound/Lab mix. A big goofy boy... LOL

Thanks to you both. Yes, PA, that is my doggy. :) Her name is Maggie. She's almost 1. :') I don't know what she is, other than her Mom was a black Lab. She's a good dog, and yes, goofy. =P

So, ya know that pregnant cat with the fever. I've just spent the last 2 hours overseeing her birth!! Aaand. I'm pretty sure she had a male calico. 0.o

Oh, yes. Plenty. If you are short on injured animals I have some you can have. You can choose from the chickens that are healing from the dog attack, the one I just recovered from heat stress, the chick with the tumor(?), the chick with the injured leg, the duckling, the deformed chick I just hatched, the ones with chicken pox, the meat birds that may or may not still have mites, the pregnant cat with the fever, or you can train the new dog not to chase chickens! =P No, really I'm not complaining. I love my animals and as much as I hate to see them sick, I am training to be a vet assistant and this is a good experience for me. I enjoy the challenge and though it does often bring heartbreak, I can only get better and each victory is so rewarding. I hope to one day be able to take in sick and injured animals as a hobby. I love working with them and mending them. I'd need an assistant to cull the unsavables for me though... Slaughtering for meat I can do, but killing a baby chick... not so much. Any volunteers?
awww sweetie..... if we were closer to you my husband and I wold come over and help you woth the cull or halp by taking ome of the sick load off of your shoulders....good luck

I appreciate it.

I do have help when it comes to culling, so that's okay. And like I said, it's good practice for me. I don't mind. I really enjoy mending sick animals, it's just when they don't mend that gets to me. But I suppose that's normal.

well, i don't really know, but my mom started loosing control like that once, a long while ago. it turned out that she had a brain tumor affecting the part of her brain that controlled the movement of her legs. she went to the doctor when her left leg started to just stop responding. she got really tired of falling down the stairs. thankfully, she still lives. i hope this isn't what your duck has!!!!

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. That must have been so scary! It's possible that's what my duckling has, I suppose. There's nothing I can do about it if it is, though. I'll do the best I can with her. I just got her out of her pool after a little swim. She's so agile in the water. I can't tell if she's improved at all. She still slips a little, but she din't fall face first into her food bowl this morning. She's drinking like water is going out of style. I'm keeping vitamins, electrolytes, probiotics, and antibiotics in her water to try to cover all my bases. Either it'll help or it won't I guess.

My goodness! Maybe you should lock your Mama in a padded room! =P I'm glad to hear she is still alive. I can't imagine losing my Mama.
