I live in Alaska. It gets -40 here every winter. I was considering Muscovy Ducks for many reasons, one being they eat Mosquitos (mosquito ducks).
Can they withstand the temperature without a heated coup? Do they eat snow like a goose or do they need a pond?
I have a hard time finding information on livestock in my extreme cold weather.
Often I read a breed is cold hardy and then they say something about being able to withstand 20 degrees f.lol

We occasionally get to -40 degrees here. My muscovy do okay. They do look cold on those days. For us it comes and goes most winters. I don't know if they would be okay all winter at those temperatures. Drakes can get frostbite on their carnacles.

I've never heard of them eating mosquitoes. Mine mostly wander the yard, day and night eating bugs. They don't spend a lot of time in the water. They mostly bathe and move on.
