Unless you have a permit to raise them for meat, or you can grandfather them in if you already own them.

This is bad news, muscovies are unique in that they are far more friendly than most mallard derived ducks, they are remarkable broodies, and are wonderful as urban, backyard ducks because they don't quack.

They are going to hunt down all the wild muscovies in the country except for a couple of counties in Texas where they have been previously documented as native fauna.

Do we have enough people willing to contact their congressmen and senators to stop this!!

They are considered an invasive species. I believe the move against muscovies started in Florida because there are many invasive species there so people are up in arms in general. But some people believe muscovies are actually native there. Anyway there are lots of places where they are found on lakes and rivers although how much damage they do is very questionable. They don't even do very well in colder climates and are as subject to natural predation as mallards. Muscovies are excellent at reducing the misquito populations though.

As someone in FL, let me just say...muscovies are a royal PITA here. I think they're wonderful for pets, but the problem is all the idiots who get ducklings, raise them, then let them go.

Muscovies have essentially taken over a lot of lakes/ponds and kicked out the native ducks.

That being said, I think this law is taking things a little too far. They should have found a better way to meet in the middle...

ETA: There are a ton of people who raise mallards, Bobwhite quail, turkeys, etc w/o a permit (even though you're suppose to have one, at least in FL). I imagine the same thing will still go on with the Muscovies.
