Muscovy Hen Chirps Now?!

I’m shocked no one had said this but a female muscovy chirps like that when they are expecting babies and sitting on a nest. 3 of my girls make that sound and they all have nests. They also make the noise to the drakes to tell them “no mating with me” (drakes will mate with them anyways lol) but their chirps get higher when they stop laying but sit on their nest basically 24/7. Hope you learned something new :)

Thanks for the info. I'm gonna listen this coming year and see if I notice that. :)

I do remember the first time one of my hens were laying, and she started to get a newer higher-pitched peep, much like the one op posted.

I love the different range of peeps, honks, and trills my Muscovy girls get!

I learned about this chirp just recently. Salt had decided she was going to sit, instead of lay and go with her eggs. She chirped and flapped her wings at me when I came to gather her egg. She still chirps at me even though she isn't sitting anymore. I think it is her way of reminding me that I am an awful human...

My muscovy hens full out attack me when I try to take the eggs. I gotta use a stick to work the eggs out from under them, and wear rubber boots. My girls mean business.
