Hi! I have an assorted flock of ducks, one of which is a muscovy. She is my favorite, but she has some weird behaviors that I don't notice in the others. She likes to follow humans around, and will eat out of the hand, unlike her brethren. If I step out of the house, and she sees me from the field, she will come waddling - completely abandoning the flock. Here is a video of some funny noises she makes.
Are these normal? She is the only muscovy in my flock. I have 2 half muscovy half pekins, (according to person I got them from as chicks), a mystery brown duck, and two pekins. One of these pekins seems to have some sort of mental disability, if that's even possible in livestock.
If you can answer my question, I really appreciate it!

I think she's more attached to you instead of her flock. I'm not sure why she would be but that's what I think. As for the noise she's making it kinda sounds like she's panting. Are any of the other ducks making that sound?

No, she is the only one making that noise. She was older than the others when I got her, if that has anything to do with attachment.

The sounds the bird is making are typical Muscovy sounds. How long have you had, and how old is the bird ? It almost appears to be a drake to me.

I'm doing some research, and it seems that my 'female' muscovy may be a male??

I brought 'her' to show, and the vet claimed she was a hen. You could be right though.

Those are drake sounds and look how big the feet are... Does "she" trill at all? It's almost like the coo of a dove except higher pitched. If "she" doesn't make any sounds other then huffing and hissing, then "she's" actually a "he".

Never heard "her" trill, no. it appears that "she" is a "he." Thanks!

Yes a drake they have awesome personalities. But can get over bearing too so watch you stay in touch with that in case he decides you are a rival. My drake[Muscovy] loves me to extreme at times and has to be put in his place. My dh is his rival. Most of the time I can lay mine down on his belly with my knee over him holding his head down so he can bite and leave him that way for a few mins and he comes to himself. lol Now my dh can't even go into his part of the yard before Opie is attached to his pant leg I keep says to him hold him down like another drake would but he won't.

Those caruncles are a little on the big side for a girl. My money is on its a drake. I have found my male to be far more vocal when spoken to and does the whole tail wag. It's lank precious!! Get that handsome fella some Sheilas man!! Always room for more scovies..... always!!!
