Muscovy Incubation, by Broody or Incubator

She has a nice clutch of eggs there!

@Patriciaallison , if you're on Facebook, there's more than likely many poultry groups specific to your state that you can find waterfowl on. You can try your luck locally that way as well.
Thanks. Yours does also. I honestly thought we were on sitting on 14 or I would have been pulling some.

I haven't had much luck with incubating Muscovy eggs myself and my first broody was killed by a snake:hit I could tell by the disarray of her nest that she fought a great fight, RIP BB. I now have a second broody and am doing everything possible to help her succeed.:fl I know there are Muscovy threads where we talk about incubating eggs but I wanted to start a thread solely for incubation. Please join and share your experiences whether you have a broody or you are using an incubator to hatch Muscovy eggs. I would love to see/hear about everyone's story and advice on Muscovy incubation; both, by broody and artificial. The next topic we need a thread on is Muscovy colors:D Thank you for stopping by:frow This is Blanche. She'd only been with us for 2 weeks and she went broody. She's a serious sitter. She built her nest in a spot that I knew I should have blocked off because I myself could not reach it and I wanted to be able to count her eggs, and help her, lol. My DH and brother in law helped me move her successfully to a better location. During the move I pulled 6 eggs to incubate in case she abandoned. She went bolistic at first but then settled down. I locked her in so she really didn't have a chance to abandon:/ By candling, all 6 eggs were fertile, active and appeared to be on day 8. I have since moved the eggs back under her. She came out today for a stroll, bath and to POO:eek: Man or man did she poo. There's nothing like broody poo:sick Sitting on original nest This is where she started
she's beautiful! Thank you for starting this thread!!

Thank you and welcome. Have you incubated Muscovy eggs or have a broody? My first attempt at incubating Muscovy eggs produced only 2 hatches and I had to help them both out of their eggs. One died at about 4 wko

My last attempt of 7 I had 5 go into lock down and all 5 died around day 31 or 32:( Only one of them made the turn to internal pip position but it didn't pip.

oh my! :hit I have 3 broodies at the moment which it pains me to say after hearing your troubles :hugs we hatched 6 almost a month ago and had to help 2 that were early and had unabsorbed yolk both are OK. We have 2 others sitting on eggs and the third that just hatched her clutch is back to making another nest!

I put my 4 eggs into lockdown last night, but I'm not optimistic. They didn't look good. We'll see what happens.

I have 8 more in a different incubator that are all fertile and looking good, but I think I'll try to stick them under one of my broody Scovie hens. Right now, I have one sitting on 18 eggs and another on 5 or 6 I believe. I just don't know what will happen with the incubating process being a week apart in the eggs. I worry she'll discard the unhatched.

I wish I knew what it was that causes them to be so difficult to incubate.....

I can only speak for what we did during our very first hatch so we are by far experts but if you take the hatched ducklings from mama she will continue to sit until the others hatch ours stayed broody. She then also adopted our silkie babies as her own! :lau I don't know if this is every scovy mama or just ours but thought I'd offer up our experience! Good luck!!
