We've had a true "Muscovy" week around here. I went to see Cottage Rose on Friday to pick up some wonderfule little cuties. I am so excited to have some solids and cannot wait to see them mature. We plan on keeping all of them for our breeding pens.

Adding to the fun my blue female hatched out her first clutch today. She has 14 little ducklings, and 3 eggs still tucked away. She is such a good momma. One look at my hand would tell you how protective she was about all those babies. The sad part is they are all already sold and will be picked up within the next few days. There seems to be a good mix of colors in her nest. I do not know all the colors yet, but the majority I am guessing will be chocolate. There was one I am fairly sure was blue, and quite a few "yellow" ducklings.

Where could I find a list or info about the possible colors in my pen. My drake is blue pied, and I have blue, blue fawn, chocolate, and black girls. Eggs were moved around throughout the 4 different nests until the girls selected a nest as their own.

I'll try to take some pics in the morning if momma is willing.

Has anyone ever let a broody chicken hen hatch scovie eggs? My chocolate female still has not chosen a nest after already laying 30+ eggs. I keep moving them into the nest I have ready for her, but she is not setting yet. Each morning her eggs are in a different spot. I worried that those older eggs are going to be too old by the time she figures it out. I took 9 eggs out of the nest today and put them under my broody EE hen. The EE has been setting on EE eggs for 4+ days now. I've removed her 3X, and she has come back each time. I did stick the chicken eggs in an incubator. What are my chances of hatching these eggs with the chicken hen? The more muscovies the better around here. Plus these are from my chocolate which is one of my favorites.
