Muscovy keepers share your pics!

I'm having some trouble with the cold and rain as well but luckily where I live it almost never gets below 25 degrees Fahrenheit so yay for that!

I still haven't caught her yet, but am keeping very close watch on her and opened up the pen. It's my youngest girl giving me grief atm, her name is now Trouble. The dark brown one is Truffle. And the big black drake is Elvis. I have been thinking she told me her name is Lilly. I think my critters talk to me, but others might find me crazy for saying such things. I'm very soft hearted, which is why they are all in my back yard still and not the freezer.

Now if I could keep my bunny water bottles from freezing, I would be having a far better winter.
Well I can add my duck to the list of bloody wings/tails, My duck who is finishing up her molt lost a bunch of wing feathers full of blood. OH my gosh what blood. I plunged her into the pool water was very cold to try and stop the blood then went and got the blood stop finally got it slowed enough to put Blue Kote on her and put her to bed, Kept going in to check and make sure it didn't start back up again never have had one lose her blood feathers like that. I had one pull off a nail and bled alot. Hopefulyl that won't happen again. I had to herd her under the wood shed into a corner to catch her, and to make it worse she was fighting me I had to wrap her in a towel to treat. Today she hates me. lol

Holy smokes ML that is quite the adventure. The blood from the nails or blood feathers can be something, it'll resemble a murder scene.

Buck—That's fine. I just didn't want anyone having their ducks crushed like mine almost were! You sound like maybe you are using the plywood the same way I use fiberglass:

The white is the fiberglass and it blocks wind. The greenhouse is where they have been staying. I was going to let them back in their pen today, but they were hiding in the greenhouse last time time I looked!

I still have Lilly and she's still bleeding. I haven't used their heated bowl yet, I put out 3 large pots of water in the morning with 3 pans ff for the ducks and roosters and they keep it stirred up between 7 ducks.

I left the heated bowl plugged in the egg layers area last night to find strange critter droppings near the fence this morning leading me to now empty the water and bring the bowls in every night.

This weather is so wonky! It thawed most of the snow and ice so everyone is kinda wet/muddy. I see the ducks drinking water from the drain pipes in the run area. I worry about predators, so I try to stick to areas of my house I can hear if something is wrong and pop my head out a window. I have an ac roo recovered from the crow reduction surgery that has sour crop or impacted crop. He was better but then I feed him and the haffie pullet Cookie I put in to keep him company. Bad idea. My bf had to heimlich him again today. Idk wtd. I might bring in a ac pullet or my slw Wobbles to even things out. She's a cuddler too. I think Elvis, Touble and Truffle know they are "safe". The other big drake I'm torn about, he's such a good protector with Elvis.

Yes the bunny water bottles are for my buns Grace and Alice. Grace is expecting her first litter this weekend. And it's getting to double didget below zero at night here.

thanks for telling em thats fine, i already know that doe :D umm yeah my muscovy ducks hate being indoors so thats why i can't have them go up in like a coop so they have a pen, and they hate being confined so thats why my pens are so large, i like what you did but i can't so that for mine, but i have tarps set up on the sides right now blocking the wind and stuff , they're warm right now though, by wednesday i hope to take up the wet and frozen pine straw and rake up some more to replace it

i have a trick when you can't get up close to a duck thats bleeding!!!! you know how you can throw corn starch and its still really patched together, well our some in your hand and underhand toss it at the duck (where the bleeding spot is) and some should attach and help stop the bleeding

Buck: My muscovies can't seem to make up their mind. Saturday, they wanted back in their pen but it was too cold. Today, I had the pen set up and open, and they didn't go more than two feet from the greenhouse. I shut them in there for now. There were several deer in the yard (they ate the duck food and drank the water!) so maybe that was it. They are just impossible for me to predict what they will want.

ML: The bloody wing sounds awful. I had no idea ducks could pull out blood feathers. I just know you have to be careful when you clip the wings.

Sometimes when there is a confrontation between 2 of the girls feathers get pulled out, just so happens it had to be her wing feathers just growing in full of blood. Then when I finally caught her she was fighting me so hard more came out. Finally I got the towel around her so I could calm her down. Boy they can be a handful. lol
