I wouldn't put the egg with a non-broody duck. If the silkies are broody then go ahead and put it under them. Was the mother attacking the egg for sure or do you think she was trying to go after you to protect her nest and got the egg instead?

do you have a heat lamp? maybe try putting him into a box with a bowl of water and a heat lamp, all closed up so it stays humid? I wouldn't pick at the shell any more. Hopefully you can figure something out. poor duckie.@pyx
