I'm sure I've seen this question before, but my four muscovy females all stopped laying eggs about 3 weeks ago. They were doing fine and then stopped. There were some disruptions—we were out of town and had someone come feed them and they were not allowed to free range during this time. However, I thought they's be back to normal in a couple of weeks. They don't seem to be laying eggs elsewhere. Even if they are left in the pen for a day or two, no eggs. I am feeding them laying pellets and mixing it with scratch grains. It's been cold enough I thought the scratch grains would help keep them warm. Now, they're free ranging again, but still no eggs out of any of the four. Any ideas?
The broody hen is still sitting on the eggs and seems quite content with her task. She's on her 19th day now. We see her get up and eat and drink, so we've just left her be. We made a special area for the hens to brood so the others wouldn't bother them and it seems to work well. She's quite calm brooding this year as compared to last, when the other ducks could get near her. I have no idea if she can actually hatch the eggs, but rather than fight her over eggs and try to stop her from doing her thing, we let her sit.
I have one lonely drake, since his last hen went broody yesterday. Only two weeks left until my first hens eggs hatch! I estimate I have as many as 50 duck eggs being incubated right now.I guess I'm going to be overrun with ducks pretty soon.![]()
