Muscovy keepers share your pics!

Ah so not new to Muscovy as I raised them when I was young, but I haven't had any in about 25 years now. This week I picked up a couple ducklings that were in a bad situation. One of the dominant ones plucked all the babies flight feathers coming in and left them a bloody mess. Since I got them home the black one has been an absolute monster. It's ripped my hand open a couple times. I am sure I could have used stitches the once but a few butterflies and an immobilized has worked for now. This same duckling has now decided to start plucking the feathers. This is a huge problem and I won't tolerate it in my flock. I understand that sometimes it's just a phase but how long does it last. For now it is in solitary confinement with a high protein game bird feed and a supplement.

Help?! Anyone want it? (Only somewhat kidding. I think I would totally give it away)

Blue Kote works wonders in disguising wounds or feathers being plucked out raw skin etc. get the kind with the dauber. Don't put it near the eyes. and it will stain anything in comes in contact with but works great other wise.

I've thought about using the blue kote but no other ducks are after the white duckling and the pins that are left are blue now that they are healing. I did seperate the black one. It's in area by itself. A little small but I do let it out with the others for pond time daily. Seems in the water it is too occupied to do much damage. This habit was instant once I let them into the pen out of the carrier so I know it's a carry over. I did notice only scratch or corn on the pen when I picked them up so hopefully what started as a protein deficiency will correct itself quickly. I have 18% game plus a conditioner top coat in with him 24/7 and only during the dY with the others. Unfortunately since I had to isolate this one the others didn't fare so well bio security wise. Ah well live and learn and be better prepared next time.

Hopefully with time and good diet he'll calm down. be careful though with higher protein you don't want angel wing. It is dif a carry over and such a shame people don't research proper diets for their flocks to avoid this kind of problems. Glad your giving him a chance.

I stopped my goose by not letting her into her nest anymore but being it was in a pet carrier it was kind of easy....
We locked her out of the pen last night away from her nest and when I went out this morning to let everyone out she was in the nest. She got up on the roof of the pen and busted through a piece of netting. We made our roof out of a PVC frame with shade cloth but we had one square we ran out of cloth so I put deer block over it, she broke that spot. Now I get to fix the whole thing again. Whee!

This bird is a pin in my booty. She has been broody for two months. She sat on two eggs for 40 days, I took them away and they were rotten. Now she just goes in and sits on the other hen's egg all day until I take it away. ugh. Thank goodness for leather work gloves, she is MEAN!
