Muscovy keepers share your pics!

I haven't had a dog in years. I have small children and was waiting to figure out exactly what breed would work for our needs. I was considering Great Pyrenees but I came across these Maremmas, researched them and discovered that they had many similarities. I am new to the breed but am impressed. Mine are unregistered but full blooded out of working parents.

I highly recommend them. They are staving off the skunks and weasels in my area very well. We also have mountain lions and many coyotes. When the coyotes start singing my dogs warn them to stay away and so far it is working.

My son saved a wild rabbit from a weasel the other day. He saw it chasing the rabbit and took off after them. When the weasel jumped on the rabbit, he dove in and grabbed it by the tail. He was going to bash it but it turned on him in just a second so he flipped it up into the air. It landed and hid in a snow drift. My husband then shot it.

So we discovered that we have a very large weasel population after talking to the neighbors.

There are a few different LGD's out there and I highly recommend looking into them for the safety of your birds.

I would have gotten them earlier if I had known how well they work for protection.

It breaks my heart every time I discover a headless, bloodless or simply missing bird. You put so much work, money and love into your flock only to have them slaughtered.

I want one of those dogs. most of my dogs that I have are mutts and rescues as we see to give them a home. And we have chihuahua and a poodle to ( the happy things) and the other dogs are totally mixed with lab and others a hound, we have a boxer to. And all of them want to apparently attack my ducks :( there's 1 Newfoundland/ golden retriever/ something that just loves my ducks he will go and sit by them ( if he ever is near them) and he just is a love bug, I don't know if he would protect them though he is rather old and he now has cancer in one of his legs :(

You know, poodle is actually a hunting dog breed

I've made it through about 100 pages of this thread and decided I now need to post some pics of my Muscovy. I just found out that she's a Muscovy, thanks to some helpful people on another thread. I thought she was a blue Swedish because when I Googled "blue ducks" that's what came up (she was more blue-colored when we got her). A neighbor found her alongside a highway back in October and gave her to us because the neighbor doesn't have any ducks. We have two Rouens and five Indian Runners, and I was thinking that I needed to get her a Muscovy friend. After seeing all the beautiful pics of everyone's ducks on this thread, I'm absolutely convinced she must have at least one Muscovy friend...or two or more...

A rescue is how I got started two months ago. I adopted a black female that somebody dumped. Now I have 4 drakes and five hens. AND I just bought 10 ducklings. They are addicting with those personalities!

I had bought a non flying/climbing or jumping etc, colony of feeder exotic live bearing roaches.. My male especially and a female gourge themselves on a cup a day and are very happy having them. Woman of house not so happy at all about, but sometimes she watches and cheers ducks on as they devour them. Don't mind Lil bunny foo-foo, she is a mooch.
