Muscovy keepers share your pics!

Quackmire Duck looks like a sweet Scovy girl. Love the pic's of her in her kiddie pool.

Mine love their pools also esp. in the heat of the afternoon. Watch those little white feather spots around her eyes as she gets older and molts. There's a very good chance that she will develop a white head & neck. White head is a dominate gene in Scovies and that touch of white around the eyes, sometimes found on the back of the head or a small line of white at the base of their neck is a early indicator of it.

Thanks keeper! I had no idea that Q would develop more white in time. His head was completely black/brown when he was fuzzy duckling, so all the little white splotches popping up as he feathers out were a surprise.

Now I'm anxious to see what comes of him as an adult!

So, you think he's a she? Can I ask what indicates "him" being a her?

I'm a complete newb to the duck world and wouldn't know how to tell the difference.

Also, do you think we're close on age guess? 7-ish weeks?

Actually, I'm new to the duck world also. We bought our first adult Scovies late March this year but I've been getting alot of practice observing and learning w/first 4 clutches hatched this spring and now 2 others w/one more on the way. Needless to say, we are a bit overrun w/Scovies though we have sold some and processed a few.
Though Q is by herself and it would be easier w/another Scovy to compare her size w/ she looks smaller in the pic's than our boys. The boys typically have a heavier body, legs are thicker than Q's & their feet in general are huge in comparison at that age. She has thin delicate legs & her feet are not overly large.

Also, in the first pool pic, very cute by the way, Q's head looks small and rounded, "girlish", in comparison to drakelets heads which are heavier. Q's overall body structure says "ducklet" to me. I think you have Q's age down pretty well give or take a week. I've noticed the girls feather out quicker than the boys by that age also. Go back thru some of the pic's of ducklings about that age and see if you can see a difference in head, feet, legs and general body structure & compare them to Q's.
Having said all this, watch me be wrong!

Enjoy your Scovy be it Ducklet or Drakelet!!

I'm so glad I found this thread as I just bought my first ducks last week. I brought 4 home, but one is now missing. I'm not sure what happend as he was free ranging with all the other poultry and everybody else is here. I would have thought one of the white chickens would have attracted a predator much quicker than a black/chocolate duckling.

Here are pics of the others.

This is the older female that hatched this spring.

This is Punky Bluester named for her mohawk and beautiful coloring!

Sure wish I knew where the other little guy was. None of them have been handled at all, and I hope we will be able to tame them. They do follow me back to their pen everynight, so that's a blessing. Hopefully they will enjoy the love and hugs my kids would love to share with them soon. Right now their favorite thing to do is hang out with the 9 week old Black Javas and Dels in the pasture.

Yep, These are all just babies. If I remember correctly Punky was hatched in June......I saw so many that day from different hatches that they all just run together. Funny thing was that she was going to be added to the breeder flock the next day if I had not chosen her. They are trying to develop their blue line more. Now I just need to find some buffs.
