I would understand if they had been shipped... But these eggs I got were handed over to me fresh from her ducks and as soon as I got them home, they sat for about two hours in the carton, then were put under my broody...shipped eggs if not packaged well can be a shot in the dark. Even good packaging if you get 30-40% out of them it is considered good. When buying, avoid the extreme heat of the year, buy from someone in the same region as you. Maine to Arizona would be a good buy, but Maine to Georgia would safer.
Thanks for the links. I have heard of all the colors but calico. So far no luck on how to breed for the color or even pictures but a couple sites where the calico color is listed. Many other quite exotic colors have occurred - mostly in domesticated breeds, such as blue, blue and white, chocolate, chocolate and white, lavender and calico. http://www.avianweb.com/muscovyduck.html Hershey the plucky mystery duck » Wild About the City In recent years, domestic muscovies have been bred into a huge variety of exotic colours including, lavender, blue, white, pied, calico — even chocolate ripple. www.wildaboutthecity.com/previously-published-stories/hershey-the-plucky-mystery-duck/ This is the post that first got me wondering about calicos https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/526793/muscovy-duck-colors A couple genetic sources that were interesting http://kippenjungle.nl/kruising.html genetic table http://www.muscovyduckcentral.com/genetics.html
I didnt want mules... guess I shoulda dealt with it and let her sit them and see what I got. Now I am only getting eggs from Bean as Cocoa is broody and Poopsie is taking an egg break (no broodiness, probably just tired of having to lay her eggs under a testy broody) I wish I could just give her chicken eggs but I dont want her to drown them by accident thinking they can swim.So sorry Rookie.why can she nor sit her own eggs?![]()
