Could a predator have taken her? it's pretty risky letting them brood eggs with out protection, and when mine are brooding they don't take many breaks but when they do it seems it's later in the day, quick eat, swim and back to the nest. They will drive away their ducklings after a certain age. gotta get them on their own.I noticed my Momma duck has not stopped by the barn for breakfast for the last 3 days. When they are sitting on eggs,,,,do the mom's ever take a break to eat? I ask because I can't locate her by the pond. Her mate and the last batch of babies show up in the morning. I did notice some odd behavior by mom last week. Like she was trying to drive her daughters away. Hummmm???? any thoughts?
So sweet! they grow so fast too.
I cant wait for babies next spring!! Not that I need anymore animals... I think some may have to go in the freezer next winter, much as I hate to but duck is really good!!! I dont even bother to cover my pool.. just vacuum it out in the spring...
