I'm so very very sad and depressed. I just got my beautiful Muscovies and somehow a fox took my lovely Rosa. We were just getting to know each other and she almost let me pet her yesterday. She liked to sit on the top of the 6' fence surrounding her pen. She never came down outside of it, but somehow a stupid fox got her. Only thing I can think of is that he startled her and she fell on the wrong side. All I found this morning were a few feathers and fox prints. I'm so bummed out. They are not that easy to find out here either. Stupid *^&$*@#&%*#@$& fox. He took one of my 'dinner-table' roosters last week. We are picking up a trap tomorrow in the hopes we can catch and relocate it. But my beautiful Rosa is gone

I'm so sorry, especially for your loss of Rosa. From what I've read, once a fox gets a taste of a good thing, it keeps coming back. Hopefully you can keep the rest of your flock in tact. Good luck!!

Hi everyone!

Finally have been able to get back on here & Daisy & I have missed you all!
Beautiful duckies as always!

Daisy & momma

Daisy just got a bath! She managed to get very dirty!

Such a pretty face, even if it's all white now

It was totally dark & she was being sneaky trying to walk all over me to get to my pillow. I suprised her with the flash!

So sorry for the losses. I hope you catch it.

I don't recall if relocating (unless VERY far) is a good idea with foxes. I would check on the predators thread just in case. I'd hate for you to catch it, relocate it and have it return to it's home range. Also, if you relocate, take care where, you don't want to pass the problem on to someone else.
In Storey's Guide, they recommend 2 strands of barbed or electric wire along the top of the fence and make sure it's flush with the ground because they can squeeze through.

So very sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you. I see that you have a picture of a puppy as your avatar. I got my dogs (2 of them, one walker fox hound and one pit bull/lab cross) a wireless fence system. It was cheaper than putting up fencing and no burying wire. The dogs can stay out all day and well, they could stay out all night, but I can't bring myself to make them. I live in Eastern NC, we are lousy with foxes, foxes everywhere. All of my neighbors have to keep their chickens penned up. Mine free range during the day and are in a locked coop at night. The foxes, racoons, coyotes, bears, deer, squirrels, birds etc. are just too afraid of the dogs to come near out property. The name of the company that makes the wireless fence system is Perimeter, but I think that other in-ground fence companies are making them now too.

Also wanted to let everyone know that I just received six french white muscovy eggs in the mail from Celtic Oaks Farm (via the eggs/paypal swap) and upon candling, only two have just very slight air sac issues. I am putting them in the incubator (pointy end down) as we speak. I will weigh and candle them in a week and keep everyone posted.
