Muscovy keepers share your pics!

I do have concerns too, that they fly. Our property borders a creek and once they get to that it would be the end, cuz I'd never be able to get them back. I was just down there the other day to see what was upsetting the Canadian geese. They squawk like crazy sometimes, but I didn't see anything. They took off when they saw me.

You can always clip wings. Mine are full flight, we have a river on the neighbours property.. they don't leave or go far. The Muscovy breed isn't for everyone, though.

So far as I've found only 1 laying yet but she's pretty much laying an egg a day.
The other girls are scoping out nesting spots tho - including taking over some of the hens nesting boxes (they aren't happy about that). Even the guineas are starting to make themselves to home. First chicks are hatching, 3 of 18 so far.
SPRING HAS SPRUNG!

Congrats on all that's good.

Spring for the most part here is weeks away. There is ice on the water bowls, though I did crack it easy enough. Still much to do. I might take a walk to the creek.

Eggs are hatching here too. Not as many as I'd like though. I do have people waiting for chicks. Myself included.

Time for a few more duckling pictures.

Five weeks old and they still love to cuddle.

Gathering around the water bowl.

Tow possible fathers in one picture. The Scovie drake prefers to hang out with the pekins.
Got some pretty ones there Frank, I see yours like to make mud pies too or mud soup.

I finally found 2 new hens for Miguel! And I have 8 Muscovy eggs in the incubator for an Easter hatch!

This is Carmen (bl/wh) and Lolita (bl/wh). Lolita's feathers are a bit rough looking, but we'll get her all cleaned up!

Carmen's pretty iridescent feathers.

Lolita looking a little frazzled.

And my handsome drake Miguel. He was so excited when I introduced the girls. He had been so depressed after we lost Rosa.

I just love his little curly crest :)

My new Muscovy Rescue Duck!! She was found at Milwaukee Animal Control (MADDAC) by a dog rescue group I volunteer with and they contacted me as they know I also have ducks. I said I would take the duck and to my great surprise it turned out to be this beautiful chocolate pied female. She is now acclimated to my existing flock of 5 and doing great... it took a few days in the chicken coop to transisition her to outdoor weather (I didn't know where she came from) and a few more for my flock to accept her but how fun to have a ned addition! Now I just found out there is another that looks like her at MADAC again... saw a pic and it looks like a drake. I get him Tuesday :) The pics are in order of most recent, (yesterday) to oldest (about a week ago)

Love my Scovies and this new one, named Twist, is a real sweetie with a cute little cooo and just wants to hang with with her new brood.
