The barred females are about 4 month old now and the brown color have become more distinct with the time. I will trie to post an update photo of them in this week. Even the blue barred male have got an browner chest.. I think they are not common elsewhere because its hard to find similar pictures of these muscovy ducks.
If I had room for two flocks ( dont want scovies cross breeding ) id prolly only be able to get my hands on white and black ones. I have a barred female but she is from an ordered egg i was told. I wish we had more blues and silves down here. I would LOVE to move up north JUST for the ducks. But Im not a very cold oriented person.
My avian vet, who just recently found out I have an indoor duck, said "It'd probably be much happier outside...."
He doesn't know my Q.
She is a houseduck, and does not have a strong appreciation for the great outdoors..... What fun is sitting in the cold outside when you can be in the house playing keep away with the boy child?
Right now she's sitting on the couch next to me, preening, while I type on my laptop. We just finished a snack of goldfish crackers. She only had one, but it was broken into many pieces so she thinks she got way more than she did. Don't tell her.
She also likes to join in if the dogs bark..... But long after the dogs quit barking, the duck keeps on going. lol
