Muscovy keepers share your pics!

Whole corn? Not unless you sprout it or can't get chopped. Better digestion to get nurients that way. Scovies do fine in the wild and maybe they just haven't gotten too far from feral. As long as they can range, once you get them past bitties what ever you feed them is pretty much just to keep them around isn't it? I just wish they'd stop stealing the dog's food.

That's what a lot of people feed their ducks, whole corn... i was even at a swap last weekend and that is what was in the cages, most won't buy complete feeds and i mean for all sorts of breeds not just 'scovies. For us because we spend the majority of the year under ice & snow, the feed is actually for survival, without it they would starve, they are not native to here, they'd have to migrate to warmer places.

My dogs food is in my kitchen so no worries there and the barn cats food they seem to ignore despite it being on the front porch, although Storey's guide does speak of giving cat kibbles as a way to increase protein during molting and breeding seasons.

Lawd my feed bill........ but seriously, digestibility is really improved with the corn chopped and that means being able to pull more nutrients from it. There is elements in catfood that is not good for poultry - not to mention cat food is expensive! I do 16% layer feed + chopped corn + yeah... I've been scattering out some doggie kibbles with everything laying so hard.

Winter time, I sprout oats and black sunflower seeds along with veggie scraps (not canned - too salty) especially tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, fruits.

Don't forget free choice calcium for those eggshells! I recycle my own shells (not outside ones), pull sand from the river (has mussels).

But, I end up with incredible eggs - people notice the difference, and yeah - I charge more for them.
Loyal customers say the quality is worth it - some drive 25miles for my eggs.

Mine is pretty bad too but the ducks look good and my eggs are good too. Storey's guide speaks of using cat food? i don't but it's in there nothing about dog, it's the protein levels dogs are lower, cats higher but he adds it's to be a small portion not large amounts.

Chopped corn? do you mean cracked? here you can get whole or cracked that's it. I don't use layer feeds i have drakes so i put out free choice oyster shell instead. I don't have any egg shells i sell all my duck eggs, usually their pre-sold lol

The birds free range daily in spring thru fall, so get a lot of extras that way, so i don't add much other than the staple complete feed and i have some whole oats out in a pan, which like one drake is using most of the birds dislike them lol
