Muscovy keepers share your pics!

Just a wee update about Lola, her toe is looking good and she has stopped nibbling at it.

I probably got alot more worried than I needed to and and was definitely more stressed than Lola was and it was her toe

Thank you for all your help so many lovely people on here xxxxxxx
Great news, and worry is just part of being a good duck mama !!

What is the likelihood that all of my clutch isn't going to make it? I mean my girls are sitting on them and my boy has covered them before but the two times I have candled them I haven't seen anything.
Did you pull the first bunch of eggs? I read that the fertility is a little iffy in the first 3-5 eggs a duck lays in a season.

Also, how long have the girls been setting? I wouldn't get discouraged until about 10 days and no development.

Are they setting on the eggs ALL day long? Or are they just trying it out? 2 of mine right now are just pretending. I know because when they get off, the eggs aren't warm and they're only on there about half the day right now. They aren't fluffing their feathers to get skin contact with the eggs, they're just seeing how they feel about possibly setting for real. If they are your only ducks, it can also help to know if there are no eggs being added to the nests. When the girls want to set for real, they don't lay anymore eggs.

I start counting from when the feathers fly.
One day you have eggs sitting in a nest minding there own biz.
The next - looks like you should have a bald duck somewhere!
Usually all but glued to that nest.
Once mama stays hunkered down the temp stays consistantly warm enough to start baking babies.

Had to clip both hens wings this morning - one kept flying out of the enclosure. Not going to tackle the drake's - he's pretty wicked. I tried letting them free range for awhile but they started heading for the neighbors and the road. They have no interest whatsoever in being near the other ducks or chickens :(.

I have Muscovy and even among mine they have separated into clans. and usually the drakes are too heavy to fly. but don't let them intimidate you if his wings need to be clipped then do it. Use a towel to cover him and just pull the one wing out. clip and be done. Better than being run over by a car.

I have them penned again . . . My new neighbors aren't poultry-friendly. I'm zoned okay for everything I've got but I don't want to push it. I'm already going to have to ask their permission for putting in fencing around my pond (because it would only be 15 ft from the property line instead of 20). I'm hoping I will be pleasantly surprised by their answer . . .
