I've got one broody scovie right now. I put 4 Pekin/Pekin mix eggs under her along with one of her own eggs (which disappeared - I think one of my broody chickens stole it). I'm not sure if the eggs were fertile or not, the Pekins they came from are still pretty young. And the drakes trying to mount them are way smaller, lol. 2 Rouens and an Indian Runner mix. They are half the Pekins size!!! I'm not sure they 'did the job'. But my pied black scovy mama is happy on her eggs for now. They've got 2 more weeks to bake.
I removed my other mama scovy from her ducklings. She is NOT a happy camper. She parked herself right outside the pen and stays there. I did try to move the drake out, also, but my other drake Razzy chased him all over for about 1/2 an hour. I finally put him back in with the ducklings and he seems fine. The ducklings snuggled up to him earlier and he was good with it. And I was able to take the orphaned scovy out of the bin in my basement and put it with the others, finally. It's much happier being outside with the others, though I had taken one of Mama's ducklings and put it in with the orphan so that it wasn't alone. Mama scovy had kept attacking it when I tried to integrate it with her brood. So all seems good (for now, lol). I may have to do 2 separate duck pens - one for Razzy and his 2 girls and one for Count Chocula and his 2 girls. Unless they can learn to get along . . .
